View email in webpage browser format May is highlighted by a solar eclipse in Taurus and lunar eclipse in Sagittarius.  Eclipses intensify new and full moons, making us aware of our true priorities, as well as signaling major beginnings and endings. The third of seven exact squares will form between Uranus and Pluto, reminding us that we are in the midst of transformative changes for ourselves and the world.  Beginning in mid-April, the Sun, Mercury, Venus and Mars gradually entered a slower, mellower pace as they moved from Aries to Taurus.  Along with Saturn in Scorpio, this fixed energy can bring more grounding and focus, as long as we can remain open to positive changes. During the first week of May, we are in the last phase of the April Scorpio full moon and lunar eclipse, with a theme of healing and releasing old patterns.  It is best to focus on resolution and completion until May 9. Decisions made between eclipses can have unexpected results, while matters begun surrounding an eclipse can assume greater importance. From May 5-7, Mercury and Mars in Taurus will form a harmonious trine to Pluto in Capricorn, which increases our focus and ability to take a deeper approach in our communications and actions.  It is a good time to take positive actions leading to greater empowerment and commitment. On May 9, the New Moon Solar Eclipse occurs at 19 Taurus 31. It is aligned with Mercury, Mars, South Node and Pallas in Taurus. Taurus themes include personal resources/finances, along with needs, desires and values. Mercury and Mars combine intellect and action to enliven communications, while Pallas provides a holistic perspective. As this is a South Node eclipse, the focus is on releasing the old (patterns, beliefs, etc.) so an upgrade can occur that leads to new beginnings. Since this eclipse degree is opposite to last November’s eclipse, events coming up now may be related to that time period.  The Sabian symbol for this degree is “Wisps of winglike clouds streaming across the sky; the awareness of spiritual forces at work.”  The passage goes on to suggest that these clouds may also symbolize the presence of celestial beings (devas, angels) blessing and subtly revealing the direction to take. On May 13, a Venus/Neptune square can bring deception, confusion and uncertainty affecting relationships and self-worth.  On May 13-16, the Sun and Mercury form challenging aspects to Pluto and Uranus, which can trigger disruption and issues related to power and control. Jupiter in a challenging aspect to Saturn on May 19 cautions against overextending oneself. Strive for a balance between conservation and gradual growth. Uranus in Aries and Pluto in Capricorn form the third of seven exact squares on May 20.  Events now remind us that we are in the middle of revolutionary changes leading to breakdowns and breakthroughs in the world and our lives. There is also a need to break free of anything in the way of our independence and freedom. The Full Moon Lunar Eclipse occurs on May 24 at 4 Sagittarius 08. Sagittarian themes highlight the seeking of truth, freedom and a broader perspective, with a focus on education, publishing, travel, philosophy and spirituality. With four planets in Gemini, there can be an overload of information and details. A challenging square to Neptune can bring deception, along with awareness about balancing head and heart. This is a North Node eclipse, which is associated with Jupiter (ruler of Sagittarius), the bringer of expansion and opportunities. The Sabian symbol keynotes for these degrees, “The explosive tendency of repressed feelings and root emotions,” and “A poised and wise approach to existence based on a clear perception of unconscious factors and their operation,” suggest new opportunities arising to develop more trust in spiritual guidance and intuition. On May 27-28, Mercury and Venus align with expansive Jupiter in Gemini, which can bring new prosperity, growth and harmony in finances, business and relationships.  This aspect is favorable for communications of all types, including speaking, writing, networking and social functions. Be sure to make the most of this time. Mars/Pluto Brings Upsetting News for Amanda Knox

The Mars/Pluto square was exact today, bringing sudden disruption  to Amanda Knox's chart, as her trial results were overturned by Italy's highest court.  It formed a cardinal grand cross with her lunar nodes  in Aries/Libra and her Mercury/Neptune opposition in Cancer/Capricorn, bringing her back into the public eye again. The lunar nodes can be seen as points of destiny. Mars was also in aspect to Amanda's Pallas, which is an asteroid ruling justice and legal matters. In addition, Jupiter just crossed her ascendent, bringing more contacts with lawyers. Several transiting planets were clustered around Amanda's north node in Aries, which represents her highest path of growth. Aries wants to be free and independent and this ruling is a potential threat.

Changeable Uranus was also in a challenging square to her Mercury, bringing sudden and disruptive communications. It also indicates Amanda's new book, scheduled to come out in April and plans for a major TV interview. All of the upcoming lunar eclipses this year align with Amanda's chart, bringing more profound emotional changes from the continuing twists and turns of this new court ruling.  Since Saturn is transiting through her sixth house over the next few years, her health could suffer from the resulting stress. However, since Sun/Venus in Aries is also aligned with her north node, this shows that she has gained much sympathy from the public. It indicates that the eventual new court ruling will likely be in her favor.

View email in webpage browser format    March is a dynamic transition month, as several planets make a strong energetic shift from feminine watery Pisces to masculine fiery Aries. Mercury in Pisces remains in retrograde motion until March 17, opening us to higher visions.  Later in the month, Mars in aspect to Uranus and Pluto can bring revolutionary changes. The Vernal Equinox in Aries on March 20 marks the beginning of the astrological New Year.    We begin the month still under the February Aquarius New Moon cycle, with the humanitarian theme of working together to fulfill common goals. In these last lunar phases, we are evaluating what we have learned and preparing for the next cycle.  This is aided by a Sun/Mercury conjunction in Pisces on March 4, which facilitates contemplation and introspection.  However, as Venus also makes a challenging square to Jupiter today, we will need to watch for overextending or overloading ourselves in various ways.    The slower moving outer planets Saturn and Pluto will again form a favorable sextile aspect on March 8. Sextile aspects bring opportunities if we are willing to take some steps toward our goals. Saturn brings us the structure and stability to go deeper with transforming (Pluto) significant life areas. This aspect also occurred last December 26 and will occur again on September 20 this year.    On March 11 the New Moon occurs at 21 Pisces 24.  It’s time for new beginnings in developing our visions and intuitive awareness, along with being compassionate and sensitive. The shadow side of Pisces is being nebulous and deceptive.  This lunation aligns with both Venus and Mars, which brings in the theme of relationships, along with thinking/acting from one’s heart center.  The aspect to Ceres reminds us to strive for a higher level of care and support, without playing a victim/savior role.  The Sabian symbol for this degree, “A prophet carrying tablets of the new law is walking down the slopes of Mount Sinai,” suggests the value of bringing higher awareness into every life area.    Over the next day, Mars aligns with the Moon at the 0 Aries world degree, which can bring sudden, forceful world events and earth changes. On the personal level, unexpected changes in the family and home areas can occur due to a drive for more freedom and independence.    Mercury turns stationary direct on March 17 at 5 Pisces 37. It’s time to gradually move forward with our goals, plans and commitments, making them more concrete in our daily life.  On March 20-21, the Spring Equinox joins with Venus entering Aries to provide an ideal time for significant new beginnings.    On March 22 Mars conjuncts Uranus in Aries, which initiates a period of dynamic change. Shortly afterward, the Mars square Pluto aspect will become exact on March 26, and form a t-square pattern with Uranus.  This increases the explosive potential, which can manifest as earth changes, rebellions and/or breakthroughs of all kinds.  This pattern will be set off periodically until 2015, whenever a faster moving planet triggers the ongoing Uranus square Pluto aspect.    The Full Moon occurs on March 27 at 6 Libra 52. This lunation aligns with the above t-square pattern, along with Venus in Aries. The focus is on the Libra traits of harmony, cooperation and equality and how to balance with the Aries need for self-assertion, freedom and independence.  The Aries traits will tend to overwhelm the Libran need to maintain peace at any price. The Sabian symbols for these degrees, “A man succeeds in expressing himself simultaneously in two realms,” and “A woman feeding chickens and protecting them from the hawks,” suggest the continuing need for higher self-awareness so we can make the wisest choices for our growth at all times.    On March 31, the Sun aligns with Venus and squares Pluto.  This combination tends to bring power and control issues to the forefront.  However, a favorable aspect to Jupiter shifts the focus to a broader perspective that enables personal growth. Riding the Wave of Pisces Themes in the News

Today the Sun went into the sign of Pisces. As you can see from my column below, February has been awash with Pisces energy and symbolism due to the many planets now in that sign. These include Mercury, Mars, Neptune and Chiron. The world events happening this month range from tragic to humorous.  They remind us that Pisces energies can range from the highly spiritual to the destabilizing and toxic.

The shadow side of Pisces is especially evident in the Carnival cruise incident that began with a fire on February 10.  Pisces rules oceans and most things having to do with water, including cruise ships.  The Mars/Mercury/Neptune alignment occurring in the first week of February set the stage. It stands for toxic situations, like the broken toilets that led to an overflow of sewage after the ship broke down. This incident broke out in the news on February 10, the same day that Mercury aligned with Chiron, which represents communication about a wounded vessel and its inhabitants.  The fire signs Mars and Jupiter were in a challenging square aspect that day.  As of today, the first lawsuits are being filed.

 Other events include: the Marco Rubio speech after Obama's state of the union address.  It seems that it is being remembered more for his water bottle (ruled by Pisces) incident than what he actually said. The Pope resigned recently (Pisces rules religion) due to his frail (Pisces) condition. Horse meat was found in ground beef in England (Pisces rules subterfuge).  Perhaps more to come.....

As if to counteract all this watery energy, the earth planet Saturn turned direct today.  Saturn rules structure, groundedness and matter, such as rocks. When planets station, their energies become stronger. This Saturn energy has been symbolized by the recent meteorite explosion in Russia and the near-earth asteroid.  Meteorites were also seen in California and other parts of the world.  The meteorite in Russia led to more wounding (Pisces) mainly from shattered glass.  And the month is not over yet.....

            February brings the potential for a gentler heart-centered month, which is due to a prevailing watery Pisces theme throughout this period.   Mars and Mercury both enter Pisces during the first week, followed by the Sun and Venus later in the month.  Neptune, which rules Pisces, will make alignments with all of these planets. There will also be three planetary stations that include Ceres and Saturn, with Mercury turning retrograde in the last week.
          We begin the month still under the January Capricorn lunation period, which brought a mental focus of structure, organization and analysis. In this last week, we are in a finishing up and evaluating phase. With all the water energy, we are also taking stock of our feelings and how best to work with them.    
          On February 4, Ceres in Gemini turns direct.  The urge to take care of oneself or a loved one is strong at this time.  Mars also aligns with Neptune today, which suggests playing a savior or victim type of role.  This combination can also result in deceptive actions or a passive-aggressive type of behavior.  On a higher level, this energy can also be used to do healing work or in selfless service.
          On February 5-6, Mercury enters Pisces and aligns with Neptune, which increases one’s sensitivity, empathy and compassion.  This is an excellent time to connect with a higher source to receive spiritual guidance, or to make connection with other realms and dimensions.  It may be best to avoid detailed mental work and focus more on right-brain type of activities, such as working with guided imagery, poetry, artwork, etc.  On February 8, Mercury makes the first of two alignments with Mars for energized thinking and communicating. The second alignment is on February 26.
          The New Moon occurs on February 9 at 22 Aquarius. With Aquarius, the focus turns to objectivity, independence, uniqueness and working together for common goals.  The shadow side includes being rebellious, aloof and eccentric. It makes challenging aspects with Uranus and the lunar nodes.  We are separating from the past to redefine our true values and spiritual expression. Mercury in aspect to Jupiter today assists communication and broadens our perspective.
          The Sabian symbol for this degree, “A rug is placed on the floor of a nursery to allow children to play in comfort and warmth,” suggests that spiritual assistance and protection will be given while one is growing towards a higher awareness.    
          Stephanie Austin in The Mountain Astrologer writes that people with Aquarius, Uranus and/or the 11th house strongly emphasized in their birth charts “are system busters, way-showers, and light workers on assignment to assist humanity’s evolution….The sooner we embody who we really are, the easier it is to find our spiritual cohorts and fulfill our mission.”         
          On February 10, Venus in Aquarius forms a challenging square to Saturn in Scorpio. Due to both being fixed signs, this period can bring stalemate situations and lack of cooperation in relationships, while Mars in Pisces in a square with Jupiter in Gemini can result in disputes over long-range plans.  However, the Mercury/Chiron conjunction in Pisces today brings more sensitive awareness and empathy that can enable us to see another point of view. On February 11-12, favorable Mercury aspects to Pluto and Saturn allow for a deeper awareness and more stable, serious communications.   
          On February 18, the Sun enters Pisces, bringing focus to our visions and higher ideals. Saturn turns stationary retrograde at 11 Scorpio 31, moving backwards until July 7. We can take this time to examine and transform our approach to relationships and shared resources.  There will also be more awareness and motivation to deal with power and control issues, along with emotional wounds from the past.  The Sun aligns with Neptune on February 20, bringing valuable guidance through meditation, dreams and creative visualization.
          Mercury turns retrograde on February 23, at 20 Pisces, traveling backwards until March 17.  Be prepared for more confusion, delays and breakdowns during this period, especially with communications, computers and travel. Although this is not a good time to move forward with new plans, we can work on unfinished projects, along with doing repairs, reviews, revisions and retreats.  In Pisces, we develop more compassion, but may have a need to strengthen our boundaries in relationships.
          On February 25, the Full Moon occurs at 7 Virgo 24.  At this time we can draw on the Virgo qualities of being efficient, pragmatic, thorough and discerning.  This is a favorable time to focus on diet, health, work and service.  This lunation aligns with Neptune and Chiron, and is squared by Jupiter.  We are now challenged to apply the learning from our own spiritual growth to our various life situations.
The Sabian symbols for this degree, “a five-year-old child takes a first dancing lesson,” and “a girl blowing a bugle,” suggest that although we may feel bound by our conditioning, new perspectives are now opening to us for greater self-expression.
          On this same day, Venus enters Pisces and then aligns with Neptune on February 28.  This romantic combination can bring a spiritual soul mate connection if the timing is right.  However, it can also lead to over idealization or deception in relationships. This is a favorable time for enhanced creativity and enjoyment of music, art, and nature.

Astrology Report for December

This event signifies the ending of a 26,000-year world cycle, according to the Mayan and other traditional calendars.  Uranus also turns direct in mid-month, followed by a unique planetary pattern in the latter part. These cycles indicate a turning of the ages, indicating a shift in consciousness and openness to more unifying ways of thinking and being.            We begin the month still under the November Scorpio New Moon for another couple of weeks.  This lunation theme involves bringing deeper feelings, needs and fears to the surface for reviewing and releasing.  It was also a Solar Eclipse and a SuperMoon, which intensifies emotions, events and earth changes.  By now it should be evident what is being stirred up in our lives so we can be more open to greater awareness and transformation.           It’s time to tune in on deeper levels as we finish this Scorpio cycle.  This will be facilitated by a Sun/Jupiter opposition on December 2 that will help us see our lives from a broader perspective.  On December 7 Mercury aligns with the North Node in Scorpio, which can bring opportunities for deepening our communications or forming cooperative alliances.  The Venus/Node connection on December 12 can bring a new romantic interest or the chance to form a closer emotional bond within an existing relationship.            The New Moon occurs on December 13 at 22 Sagittarius.  The focus is on the Sagittarian traits of expansion, freedom and truth-seeking, along with being optimistic, idealistic and benevolent.  The shadow side is being arrogant and judgmental. It is favorable to discover where we can aim higher this month. On this same day, Uranus also turns direct at 5 Aries, which encourages originality and self-confidence. This day contains strong fiery energy that will help us move forward with new beginnings. The Sabian symbol for this degree, “A Chinese Laundry,” suggests the idea of cleansing on all levels in preparation for the coming shifts.  It can also indicate becoming more aware of our special strengths so we can survive and prosper more easily in a changing environment.              The Mercury/Jupiter opposition on December 17 favors meeting others who expand our horizons.  With favorable Venus aspects, December 22 will be a good time for social events and networking. However, there is a danger of overextending ourselves and information overload.           The Winter Solstice arrives on December 21 (at 3:12 am PST) when the Sun moves into Capricorn. At this time Jupiter in Gemini forms a yod, or “Finger of God” aspect, with Saturn in Scorpio and Pluto in Capricorn.  Saturn and Pluto represent our older patterns that need to be restructured or released.  Both point to Jupiter as the focal point, which indicates the path of discovering and following our higher truth and ideals.  Saturn and Pluto will help us deepen the process and release old beliefs and fears.  The favorable sextile between Saturn and Pluto, exact on December 26, helps us stay grounded while encountering change. This aspect is also exact two more times in March and September 2013.           The Full Moon occurs on December 28 at 7 Cancer.  This period will likely enhance activities centered on home and family, along with concerns about personal foundations of safety and security. The ongoing Pluto square Uranus aspect is activated, which brings increased prospects for major life changes. Finding better sources of inner support will bring positive change to our outer experiences.  The Sabian symbols emphasize this theme: “In a sun-lit home domesticated birds sing joyously,” and “A group of rabbits dressed in human clothes walk as if on parade; the tendency in all forms of life to imitate higher forms as a stimulus to growth.”             The Sun/Pluto alignment on December 30 brings focus to issues of personal empowerment and transformation.   By now we realize the December Solstice didn’t signify any imminent catastrophe, but a rebirth into greater possibilities.  The Mars/Uranus sextile on December 31 provides an energized drive for the transition into the next year.
